Tell Your Friends About Camping in Alaska.

Hello travelers, welcome to the segment on Alaska Highway Campgrounds and RV Parks. Here we are going to discuss the services along the Alaska Highway, often referred to as the Alcan Highway in this neck of the woods. Please read through this as there are some things you just ned to be aware of before you travel the Alcan Highway in search of a modern campground or heaven forbid a luxury RV Park in the middle of the northern wilderness. I'll try to make this quick and informative so it will be easy to read and remember too.

Campgrounds along the Alaska Highway

Dawson Creek British Columbia, the beginning of the Alaska Highway. The Alaska Highway, one of the longest, loneliest stretches of road you'll ever have the pleasure of driving, begins at Milepost “0” in Dawson Creek British Columbia where the services and amenities are plentiful. Dawson Creek is for all practical purposes the place you need to be sure to stock up on any of the necessary items that you may have forgotten when setting off on this journey.

By now you have already traveled a good distance just getting here and supplies and maintenance issues need to be attended to now. There are some very good vehicle shops in town along with an RV wash and for those supplies there is a WalMart for those needing to stock up on the staples.

Be sure to check out the Alcan Highway road conditions before leaving the town of Dawson Creek. There has been a lot of construction along the road as the new gas pipeline is now in full operation. Between Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson the traffic from workers and truckers can be fairly heavy at times.

OK, now were getting ready to tackle the 1200 mile journey to the other end of the Alaska highway. What lies ahead is miles of emptiness with an occasional town like settlements and a few larger places including your next major supply stop of Whitehorse Yukon.

Today, Fort Nelson is a very big and rapidly growing town with lots of services for the oil and gas industries; but it's not really easy to find your way around in and thus we like to keep going through Nelson. On our trip north last December, the gas prices in Fort Nelson were the highest of all during the entire trip. This is why I say, stock up in Dawson Creek and get what you need to get you to Whitehorse. So now lets look at the camping opportunities along the Alaska Highway.
