Kluane Lake along the Alaska Highway
A timeless awakening untouched by man; lifting spirits in the serenity of this awe-inspiring National Park, Kluane Lake beckons the inner wonderer in everyone that comes to her shores. From the first time I crested the mountain and my eyes gazed in wonder over a phenomenon considered long lost; a past reborn in a resurrection of untold desolation, I realized that all I believed to be had just been silenced.
The Alaska Highway traverses the steep mountainous terrain of Kluane Lake's southern border. Following the contour of the lake the drive offers many spectacular views of the St. Elias Mountains and the intriguing Kluane Lake from a number of strategically located pullouts. Heading north you pass through the communities of Burwash Landing and Destruction Bay where gas, food and lodging are available. Camping is available Congdon Creek Campground and Cottonwood RV Campground mid way along the lakes shores. Kluane lake is well known for its fantastic grayling, pike, whitefish and lake trout fishing.
Cottonwood RV Park is nestled between Kluane Lake and the magnificent St. Elias Mountains. The Park lies adjacent to Kluane National Park and directly on the shore of Yukon’s largest and most beautiful lake.
