Visit the Kennecott Mine in Alaska

Getting There: You can drive to the Kennecott mine area by heading south on the Richardson Highway from Glennallen to the Edgerton Highway where you will turn east towards Kenny Lake. Follow the Edgerton Highway 34 miles to the turnoff for the McCarthy Road. This is an unimproved gravel road that takes you 60 miles on the McCarthy Road that ends at the Kennecott River where you come to parking area and a footbridge taking you the final 1 mile to the town of McCarthy. From McCarthy, it is 4.5 miles to Kennecott, and shuttles are available from McCarthy.
