Montana
Creek State Recreation Site is part of the Alaska State Parks System. There are 36 campsites
available on a first come basis. The campsites are very well kept, clean and in excellent condition.
Our visit was quiet as most everyone in the campground was there for the fishing and settled
in pretty early to be ready for the next morning on the river.

Montana Creek Rec. Site, Alaska Campgrounds
Fishermen have long been coming to Montana Creek for the abundant returns of King and Silver
salmon along with the fishing for resident rainbow trout. Excellent access to the river makes
Montana Creek a popular destination for bank fishermen. There is also the popular Kids Humpy
(Pink Salmon) Derby that takes place on the second weekend in August.
- Directions – Take the Glenn Hwy. to the George Parks Hwy.
North to milepost 96.6. Park entrance is on the left. If you reach the Talkeetna Spur Road,
