Porcupine Campground in the historic gold fields of Hope Alaska.
Porcupine Campground Hope Alaska
Plan to spend some time at Porcupine Campground on the Kenai Peninsula and discover many of
the draws that have lured adventure seekers to Alaska for years.
- Directions - Located beside the historic old gold mining town
of Hope Alaska, Porcupine Campground is accessed via the Hope Highway about 70 miles south
of Anchorage on Seward Highway. You find the Hope Highway just after the long sweeping
left hand turn following the new bridge and rest area at Canyon Creek. Turn right and follow
the Hope Highway for roughly 17 miles through the small settlement of Sunrise to the town
of Hope. Remain on the main road and you will reach Porcupine Campground at the end of the
road.
- Description - Primitive camp settings with great privacy. Porcupine
Campground is one of those lesser known areas visited mainly by local Alaskans but has been
growing in popularity within recent years. The campground was given a very impressive facelift
in the summer of 2011 including paved parking and new tables, fire rings, bathroom facilities
and more. Better trail access and removal of brush to enhance your experience and comfort.
Aside from the road and campsite improvements and new restrooms too a new trail head has been
completed from the campground as an access point to the Gull Rock
Trail.
